FEEL THE NIGHT

With the arrival of darkness, the rhythm of life on the reef changes drastically. The herbivorous fish, predominant during the bright hours of the day, seek refuge in the hollows of the coral to avoid becoming prey and the underwater landscape becomes empty of multicoloured schools of fish. Night falls and with it the predators begin to prowl in search of food in the midst of a liquid blackness.

DO YOU DARE TO DISCOVER THE DARK SIDE OF THE REEF?

Before sunset we prepare the equipment, walk to the end of the pier and from there only a giant step and a surface swim separates us from an unforgettable experience.

WHAT IS NIGHT DIVING?

Night diving is defined as diving between sunset and sunrise, so there is no source of natural light, only the light provided by our torches. At Mar Adentro Diving we leave the shore at sunset and arrive at the dive site with the last light of day...

IS NIGHT DIVING SAFE?

In principle it is as safe as diving during the day, but our limitations in perception and the fear of the dark, which every human being has to a greater or lesser extent, is psychologically charged.

to a greater or lesser extent, is psychologically charged. Then there is the visibility factor and we are dependent on our light source at all times. Since diving in the dark is already a challenge, we should not add other stressful factors such as depth, currents, waves...

WHAT DO I NEED FOR A NIGHT DIVE?

You need to be certified as an Open Water Diver and have the Night Dive Adventure, where you will receive the necessary orientation to build a solid experience from there. The equipment does not vary from that used during the day and, in fact, it is a good idea to be familiar with it. Of course, two light sources are needed, a main light source and a back-up, in case the first one fails. A compass will be very useful even if natural navigation is used.

WHAT TO EXPECT ON A NIGHT DIVE?

Although many fish are hidden or resting. During a night dive, you can expect to see marine creatures that are not seen during the day and much more colourful coral as it is illuminated by white light and polyps are out.

HOW DO I PREPARE FOR A NIGHT DIVE?

It is important to have all the equipment prepared before the dive, to have a dive plan that includes the signals that will be made with the torches, preferably dive in a site that has been dived during the day, with buddies and equipment that we are familiar with among other considerations.

At Mar Adentro Diving we have PADI and SSI instructors who will teach you how to practise this exciting diving modality in a safe way...
