Description
Deep South is the shark route at the southernmost tip of the Maldives, reserved for advanced divers. From December to March, the Emperor Virgo explores the atolls of Addu, Fuvahmulah, and Huvadhu, venturing away from the busiest areas in search of the large residents of the Indian Ocean. Fuvahmulah, an oceanic island surrounded by deep waters, offers opportunities to encounter tiger sharks, foxes, silvertips, and oceanic mantas; Huvadhu features world-class channels with grey sharks, hammerheads, and at night, whale sharks; and Addu presents the wreck of HMS British Loyalty and the manta cleaning station at Maa Kandu. Emperor focuses on natural encounters and does not practice chumming or shark feeding. With many dives below 18 meters and strong currents, it requires a Deep Diver or Advanced certification, and 100 logged dives are recommended. This is an intense itinerary for those seeking large pelagics in their natural state.
Itinerary
Departure Day: Arrival at the South and Embarkation in Gan (Addu)
The itinerary operates in the southernmost atolls, with arrival at Gan (Addu) airport after a domestic flight from Malé. You'll be transferred to the boat, assigned your cabins, followed by a safety briefing, crew introduction, and paperwork review. The vessel will stay in port overnight and set sail the next morning, starting with a check dive near the harbor before beginning the route. It is recommended to book an extra day at each end of the trip to ensure flight connections.
