Sharks

With nearly two weeks of expedition, this journey to the Cocos Island maximizes dive time in one of the world’s most important shark sanctuaries. The extended duration allows for repeated visits to key spots in the park— pinnacles, walls, and cleaning stations— where large schools of hammerhead sharks gather, along with Galapagos, tiger, silky, and white-tip sharks.

Throughout the days, encounters with manta rays, eagle rays, whip rays, dolphins, dense schools of jacks, and, depending on the season, whale sharks occur in dives characterized by strong currents and the pelagic nature of the destination. The national park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, also hosts endemic species such as the rosy-lipped batfish.

This proposal is designed for experienced open-water divers who want to fully explore this remote corner of the Pacific.

Itinerary

transfer-and-crossing-to-the-island

Pick-up is conducted at hotels in the San José area and continues by road to Puntarenas, where passengers board the Sea Hunter. From the port, the boat heads out to sea for the journey of approximately 32 to 36 hours that separates the mainland from Cocos Island. This initial voyage allows time to organize diving and photography gear, familiarize oneself with the vessel, and rest before the first dives.
