Open Water Diver

Minimum age

Do you want to enjoy the most incredible and lively dives?

These dives are usually found in areas where the current is a determining factor for the quality of the waters.

Currents produce hydrodynamics in an area, which leads to the transport and movement of nutrients that will be devoured by the smallest species. When these abound, the food chain continues. In areas rich in nutrients, we can find great underwater biodiversity.

The drift diving immersion must be planned responsibly, canceling it if it is foreseen that the current will be too strong. With this specialty, you will learn to assess the direction and strength of the current to know if the dive can be carried out successfully.

What does the Drift Diving Specialty consist of?

It consists of a theoretical part and a practical part.

  • In the theoretical part, you will learn the theoretical knowledge to carry out drift dives.

  • In the practical part, you will do 2 dives in which you will learn:

    • How to carry out a good evaluation of the currents already on the surface on the direction and strength of them.

    • To use current lines for a safe entry into the water

    • To navigate the current diagonally

    • To choose the route of your dive very well and the protocols in case of emergency

    • You will make a safety stop with a current line and simulate its breakage to learn how to use the emergency signalling buoy.

    • Buoyancy control, navigation, and communication in the drift dive

    • You will learn techniques to stay close to your partner or together in a group as you float with the current.

Warning: After doing this course, you will only want to explore the great biodiversity found in currents! We are not responsible 😉
