Wrecks of Puerto del Carmen

  • Wrecks: The Varadero area in Puerto del Carmen has several wrecks that offer an interesting and varied diving experience. These wrecks were intentionally sunk to create an artificial habitat for marine life.

  • Training: The ships are located at different depths and in different positions, providing several options to explore. The structures offer entry and exit points, ideal for exploring both the interior and exterior of the wrecks.

Characteristics of the wrecks:

Wreck of the ‘Mossel’:

  • Description: a small fishing boat sunk in the 1980s. It is known for its good preservation and for being an excellent site to observe marine life.

  • Depth: Varies, but generally between 12 and 18 metres.

Wreck of the ‘Brendan’:

  • Description: Another wreck in the area, with an interesting structure to explore and a good population of marine life.

  • Depth: Similar to the ‘Mossel’, with depths ranging between 12 and 18 metres.

Marine Life:

  • Diversity: The Varadero wrecks are surrounded by marine life, including schools of fish, moray eels, octopus and sometimes even rays and other larger species.

  • Ecosystem: The wrecks have created an artificial ecosystem that attracts diverse marine species, providing an excellent environment for observing underwater life.

Conditions:

  • Visibility: Visibility is generally good, although it can vary depending on weather and sea conditions.

  • Currents: Currents in the area are usually moderate, but it is important to be aware of the day's conditions and follow the dive guide's recommendations.

  • Boat dive from the muellito in Puerto del Carmen.
