Fun Dive at Underwater Park Tarragano with All Blue Diving Cambrils

In July 1995, the Port of Tarragona Underwater Park was officially inaugurated. This Underwater Park was designed by the Tarragona Underwater Exploration Society (SES) with the purpose of delimiting a protected maritime area near the city.

The area is located on the breakwater of the Port of Tarragona. Over the years, different types of ships have been sinking and have been colonized by all types of species and it is currently an area with abundant marine biodiversity.

The configuration of sunken ships has changed over time, especially those with a wooden structure, some of which are difficult to recognize today. On the other hand, there are new structures that draw our attention because of the marine life found in their vicinity.

To do a dive in the Park, you must request permission for the diver and the car from the SES, pay the corresponding fee (approximately €12), have accident insurance and be in possession of a diving qualification (We can process everything from center).

Once in the park we will find the SES facilities where we can get equipped and descend into the water via the stairs provided for this purpose. It also has showers and water tanks for rinsing the equipment once the dive is finished.

This area offers us the possibility of configuring different dives for all levels of experience, this makes it easier to adapt the diving route to the conditions of the sea at the time of doing it.

Dives for beginners:

The easiest dive is to follow the breakwater, to the left or to the right. Towards the left we will reach the Hermanos Aguado boat.

Throughout the entire breakwater we can entertain ourselves by reviewing the blocks and admiring the biodiversity of the area.

The depth at which this dive is carried out can reach 14 m.

Another dive consists of reaching the stern of the merchant ship La Dragonera (60 m long) which is between 14 and 18 meters deep.

To get to the boat we will follow the cape that we find immediately after entering the water, about 5 m deep and that will take us directly to the stern of the boat, where we can visit the stern castle. A lot of marine life and a great variety of species accumulate in this area. Along the way, if there is good visibility, we can see the structure called "the cathedral."

Dives for experienced divers:

Different dives around the merchant ship “La Dragonera”. We can take a tour around the ship or focus our attention on one of its parts: the stern with the castle and its two decks and the bow where we can recognize a mast, among other structures.

To visit the interior of the ship it is necessary to have the wreck specialty. In this case, the immersion can be extended by touring the interior decks and accessing the ship's holds through stairs. At this point it is important to move forward without removing the bottom so as not to raise the particles and hinder visibility.

Other options are:

Visit "the Cathedral" , a three-dimensional structure made up of ropes, where fauna takes shelter under the protection of the dome. This structure is located halfway to the Dragonera and there we can find groupers, lobsters, among others.

Head to the "Sargassum Garden" , a set of ropes fixed to the bottom that rise to the surface, producing the same effect as if they were real sargassum.

Water Conditions: Diving conditions at the Underwater Park are generally favorable for much of the year. It is important to be aware of weather conditions and currents, especially in the winter months when they can be more intense.

Marine biodiversity: We will find a great variety of Mediterranean fish, such as groupers, bream, obladas, castanets, lobsters, moray eels, conger eels, barracudas, among others. In addition, you can admire colorful corals, nudibranchs and algae that make up a marine ecosystem of great beauty.
