What does the Open Water Course include?

The course is divided into three essential parts:

1. Diving Theory

You can take the theory part online or in person, depending on the dive centre's options. You will learn the basics of diving, such as underwater pressure, safety techniques, equipment operation, underwater communication and the marine life you will encounter during your dives. Thanks to interactive resources, learning is clear and accessible.

2. Swimming pool practice

Guided by an instructor, you'll familiarise yourself with scuba equipment, learning how to assemble and disassemble each component. You'll start with pool dives to practise breathing underwater, gain confidence and develop basic skills before tackling the open water.

3. Sea Dives

The most exciting part of the course: you will do 4 open water dives, each lasting approximately 45 minutes. The first two will be at depths between 6 and 12 metres, while the last two will take you down to 18 metres, where you'll hone your skills in buoyancy, finning and teamwork.

The course lasts approximately 5 days. If you are short on time, you can opt for the PADI Scuba Diver / SSI Basic Diver course, which covers the first part of the Open Water and then complete the certification.

What do I need to bring for the course?

Swimming costume, towel, and if you tend to get seasick, sea sickness medication.

What is the maximum depth in the Open Water course?

The maximum depth is 18 metres. Once certified, you will be able to dive without an instructor.

Can I fly after diving?

It is recommended to wait between 12 and 24 hours after diving before flying.

Can I dive with contact lenses?

Yes, it is totally possible to dive with contact lenses.

Can I dive if I have asthma?

Consult your doctor to confirm that it is safe to dive and obtain a medical certificate.

Can I dive if I have a cold?

It is preferable to wait until you are fully recovered to avoid problems with pressure equalisation.

Can I dive if I am pregnant?

Diving is not recommended during pregnancy due to lack of studies on the effects on the foetus.

Do I need any authorisation?

Yes, a medical certificate of physical and mental fitness is required. Minors under 18 years of age also need a signed authorisation from their parents or guardian.
