Emergency First Response

Emergency First Response (EFR) training focuses on building confidence in non-professional rescuers and increasing their willingness to respond when faced with a medical emergency. Course participants learn easy-to-follow steps for emergency care and practice techniques in a stress-free learning environment. All courses are supported by self-study manuals, videos, and quick reference cards to enhance learning and allow you to start immediately.

EFR courses meet the first aid and CPR training requirements for the PADI Rescue Diver course and all professional levels. Most PADI Instructors are also Emergency First Response Instructors.

The following EFR courses are based on internationally recognized medical guidelines for emergency care:

Academics

  • Primary Care (CPR) – This course teaches the steps and techniques to handle life-threatening emergencies. You will practice eight techniques to assist patients who are not breathing, have no pulse, may have a spinal injury, are in shock, or are experiencing severe bleeding. You will learn how to perform CPR and continue monitoring the patient to provide the best chance of survival while waiting for emergency medical services.

  • Secondary Care (First Aid) – Since many medical conditions are not life-threatening and emergency medical services may be delayed or unavailable, this course teaches you how to provide first aid to reduce pain and minimize further injury. You’ll learn to assess a variety of injuries and illnesses and practice bandaging and splinting techniques.

  • Care for Children – This course allows participants to learn, practice, and apply emergency care techniques specific to helping infants and children during medical emergencies. It is designed for individuals who work with children or are likely to respond to emergencies involving young people. This course is often integrated with the Primary Care (CPR) and Secondary Care (First Aid) courses.

  • CPR & AED – This course focuses on CPR training and teaching participants how to use an AED (Automated External Defibrillator). When job requirements or governmental regulations specify this training, the CPR & AED course meets the need. This course is often integrated into workplace first aid programs.

  • Workplace First Aid – In certain regions like the UK, Australia, and Canada, government regulations require more comprehensive first aid and CPR training for the workplace. The Workplace First Aid programs designed for these areas include additional topics and techniques to meet these requirements while following EFR's easy-to-learn approach.

It’s a good idea to refresh your first aid and CPR techniques every 24 months, and the EFR Refresher course is designed for this purpose. Focusing on key techniques, the course helps you stay up to date and prepared to assist when needed.

NOTE:

The online course covers all theoretical components, and classroom-based practical skills are included along with certification upon completion. After purchase, you will receive your manual to begin reviewing topics. One of our instructors will contact you to review knowledge via Zoom. After completing this step, you will meet to practice the practical skills. If the course includes open water dives, these can be completed during one of Aquasub’s scheduled excursions.
