Description
Seaventures Dive Rig is the only oil platform in the world converted into a diving resort, anchored in the Celebes Sea 26 km from Semporna, in Sabah (Malaysian Borneo). It is the closest gateway to Sipadan and stands above its own house reef, accessible by elevator and open for unlimited dives throughout the stay.
###Diving starts from the structure itself and is complemented by fast boats to nearby dive sites, providing access to three different environments: the oceanic wall of Sipadan, where whirlwinds of barracudas and trevallies gather alongside turtles and reef sharks; the sandy bottoms of Mabul and Kapalai, a global reference for macro diving; and the artificial reef of the platform.
###The water is warm year-round and offers encounters with both tiny macro creatures and larger pelagic fauna. A seven-night stay allows for exploring the towering walls of Sipadan along with days dedicated to macro diving and underwater photography, all within the unique industrial and marine aesthetic of a completely water-centered onboard life.
Itinerary
Arrival in Tawau and transfer to Seaventures
International flight to Kuala Lumpur and domestic connection to Tawau (TWU). From the airport, road transfer to Semporna (approx. 1 hour, 83 km) and boat ride to the platform (up to 1 hour depending on the sea conditions). Reception with guided tour and safety briefing, and orientation dive under the platform according to the arrival time (no diving for arrivals after 4:00 p.m.).
Seaventures Dive Rig operates from a fixed oil platform anchored 26 km from Semporna, completely organized around diving. It is a PADI 5-star center with a Sabahan crew that manages daily boat trips to Sipadan, Mabul, and Kapalai, as well as access to the platform reef via an elevator connecting the deck to the water.
###They work with a buddy system on the house reef, require individual dive computer, and mandatory Advanced Open Water certification for Sipadan; daily permits are processed through Sabah Parks.
###They have a spacious dive deck, camera room, wet room, Nitrox refills, technical diving facilities, and training classroom, in addition to offering the PADI Rig Diver specialty.
